Elusive People
James Clark James Clark is the earliest known Clark family member. He was born in Ireland in 1821, and immigrated about 1860. Rumor has it that he was a “builder of bridges during the Civil War.”
Who was he? That is, which James Clark? That is, can anyone point to his service records? There was a James Clark who served in the 50th New York Engineers, originally organized at Elmira; this one had a middle initial "C." There was a James C. Clark living in Genesee county in the 1860 census, but married to Augusta Clark, so I don't think this is the same one.
