Pierre Jacques "Peter" Bisantz
Abt 1778 - 1849 (71 years)1. Pierre Jacques "Peter" Bisantz was born about 1778 in Steinsoultz, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France; died on 6 Jul 1849 in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York; was buried on 7 Jul 1849 in St. Louis Church, Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. Other Events and Attributes:
- Immigration date: 1839, New York City, New York
Notes:
Steinsoultz is near the connection among France, Switzerland, and Germany. This is the Upper Rhine (Haut-Rhin) region (that is, southern Rhine, away from the ocean), in the Alsace.
Family history has him emigrating from Alsace in 1813. This is possible, but I’ve found a much later date on two immigrant reacords.

According to a post on Ancestry.com that refers to Schrader-Muggenthaler, a passport was issued on Dec. 21, 1839 to Pierre Bisantz, a 40 year old teacher from Steinsoulz, for travel from Colmar to New York. Note that he may have traveled back and forth.
Probably he and his wife both died in the cholera epidemic in the summer of 1849.Family/Spouse: Anna Maria Ursula Mislin. Anna (daughter of Antoine Mislin and Madeleine Walch) was born in Steinsoultz, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France; died in Jul 1849; was buried on 7 Jul 1849 in St. Louis Church, Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. Aside from the 6 children listed here on the 1850 census, there is also an “I. [or J.] Hoffman” living with the family, male aged 27, born in Germany; no relation is given.
He moved to Dubuque, Iowa, and the named changes to Bisanz somehow. Further name changes resulted in Biesanz in Minnesota.

Notes:
In the 1850 census, he has 7 children listed: “B.,” Maria, Catherine, Eliza, “Mauft,” Augusta, and Daniel. There is also a “Conrad, Mike” living there who was born in Germany.
He is living next door to a “J. Bisantz,” a brother who is 4 years younger, and so cannot be Johann or Joseph.
The stone at the cemetery has 1859 for his death, incorrectly.
Augusta and Daniel are not in Margaret Bowman-Gray’s notes; I got the names from the 1850 Census, at which they were aged 3 and 1, respectively. I assume that they died as children?
